Awkward Energy, Full Send

10 years in and still weird.

When most couples hit their 10-year anniversary, they plan a romantic getaway, a nice dinner, or even a vow renewal.

Not the Howells.

When I got the message asking if I was willing to shoot an awkward photo session to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary, I nearly threw my camera into the air like a graduation cap. You bet your weirdo little hearts I am. I’ve never been more honored to witness something so gloriously uncomfortable.

They showed up dressed like they just stumbled out of a 1990’s fever dream, complete with matching denim and all the enthusiasm of a sibling photo shoot destined for Grandma’s fridge. Wheelbarrow race? Check. Straddling each other nose to nose? Absolutely. Brie staring at the camera like she was being held hostage by love? Nailed it.

And the cherry on top—behind all that awkward was a couple who’s been through ten years (and two kids) of real life together. The kind of people who can lean fully into the ridiculous and attempt 20 versions of flying lean pose, laughing to the point of tears. That’s the dream.

So if you’ve got an anniversary coming up and you’re wondering, “Should we look deeply into each other’s eyes or stage a mock engagement at a bus stop?”—the answer is obvious.

Let’s get weird. I’ll bring the props.
